Jason Moran Mentors Jazz Students

Jason Moran, a jazz pianist and composer, visited the KTSU Studios on June 19th to discuss his involvement with Jazz Education, Inc. and the 43rd Summer Jazz Workshop.  Moran is a Houston native and currently the musical adviser for jazz at the Kennedy Center.  Moran debuted as band leader with the 1999 album Soundtrack to Human Motion.  Since then, he has garnered much critical acclaim and won a number of awards for his playing and compositional skills, which combine elements of stride piano, avant-garde jazz, classical music, hip hop, and spoken word, among others.  In 2010, he was named a MacArthur Fellow.  In 2012, Moran appeared on the NPR program, “Piano Jazz Rising Stars” hosted by Jon Weber, and produced by South Carolina ETV.  The students in the Summer Jazz Workshop will benefit greatly from the knowledge of this outstanding pianist and composer.
