The Who is Luke James camp stopped by KTSU 90.9FM this week to talk about his new album, growing up in neighboring state Louisana and what it was like to perform during the BET Honors.
At first glance you may not recognize the smooth crooner’s baby face, but once he opens his mouth and begins to belt out the powerful goosebumps melodies you will recognize that this young man truly has a gift. This is not Luke James’s first rodeo. He has been a writer for some time now and has created amazing pieces of work for such artists as Chris Brown (‘Crawl’) and Britney Spears (‘Kill The Lights’) and was even featured in Houston’s own R&B diva Beyonce Knowel’s “Run The World (Girls)” video. In recent years Luke James caught the eye of industry giant, Frank Gaston, who has been a strong force behind such acts as EnVouge, Tyrese, Michael Jackson and Beyonce. This team has now earned Luke James a record deal with Island Def Jam/Universal by the way of Mercury Records.
His true talent as the saying goes, has yet to put Mr. James in a box. Growing up in New Orleans, Louisiana with other emerging game changers such as Frank Ocean, James started out playing the saxophone in a jazz band. It wasn’t until watching the the infamous Showtime at The Apollo that James came across a singer belting away a Donny Hathaway track when he realized he wanted to sing.
If you don’t know by now Luke James is the artist to watch! He captivated audiences worldwide gaining new fans when he took the BET Honors by storm and now he is making waves on the BET Music Matters Tour with Estelle, Stacy Barthe and Elle Varner. Stay tuned because there is much more to come from this artist. An interview coming soon.
